The Sherman Center for Early Learning in Urban Communities developed and carried forward the following research initiatives from 2017 to 2024.
Through applied, multidisciplinary research, professional and leadership development, and partnerships with schools, families, and communities, the Sherman Center for Early Learning in Urban Communities helped build a strong foundation for lifelong learning among young children in Baltimore City and advanced the development of best practices in early childhood education for urban schools.
Primarily funded by an initial gift from the Sherman Family Foundation, we successfully secured external grants and awarded internal grants to support research studies that advanced the field of early childhood education (ECE). Through our collaborative projects with ECE stakeholders, we also compiled a repository of data that we invited ECE researchers to explore as part of their pilot and dissertation studies.
